Former students left with unpaid loans, incomplete degrees

The Avalon Beauty College School at 504 N Milpas St in Santa Barbara has closed, leaving former students with unpaid loans and incomplete degrees.
Maricruz Garcia, who was enrolled in the program in 2005, said she is still paying off her student loans, even though she never received her degree.
“I feel like I was robbed,” Garcia said. “I worked hard to pay for school, and now I have nothing to show for it.”
Avalon Beauty College was a vocational institution that offered training programs in cosmetology, barbering, nail technology, and other beauty-related services. The school had been in operation for over 40 years.
The school's closure has left many students in limbo. Some students have been able to transfer their credits to other schools, but others have not been as fortunate.
The California Department of Education is currently investigating the school's closure. The department is urging former students to file a complaint if they believe they have been defrauded.
